The SRK Petroleum Group is a team of experienced geoscientists providing the highest quality consultancy services to the petroleum exploration industry. Our geological, geophysical and GIS specialists work together to provide solutions to your exploration problems. This allows us to plan and utilise geophysical data in a highly effective way, extracting maximum information from the data and developing sound geological models. SRK's services include the following aspects of petroleum geophysics:
In the petroleum industry, geophysical data play an important role in oil and gas exploration and production. Since most of the petroleum deposits are buried deep below the surface, geophysicists find oil and gas by building a clear picture of what is below the Earth's surface. The most common and effective method of obtaining a clear picture of the Earth's subsurface is the seismic method. In terms of cost management, however, gravity and magnetic data can provide a cost-effective means to assist in interpreting basin to lease-scale structural geology and depth to basement studies at the oil and gas exploration stage. Gravity and magnetic data together with 2D seismic data provide vital information on the structure and composition of the basin basement. Major basement structures can be interpreted from the presence of consistent discontinuities and/or pattern breaks in the gravity and magnetic data. SRK’s state-of-the-art depth to basement interpretation uses the 2D Werner Deconvolution magnetic inversion algorithm, 3D UBC-Gif magnetic inversion technique and individual 2.5D forward modelling of gravity and magnetic profile data. Except for the seismic data, gravity and magnetic interpretation provides an alternative check on the basement depth and thickness of the target stratigraphy. Companies have discovered that using these tools can be most effective in reducing the costs of new seismic acquisitions. At the reservoir scale, geophysics, in particular, seismic data often provide the primary information on reservoir or aquifer extent. High resolution 3D seismic survey has proven effective in reducing the risk of dry holes and in predicting drilling hazards such as faults and overpressure. Seismic stratigraphy provides information on depositional patterns and lateral facies variations. In addition, other seismic analysis tools provide methods for mapping fluids contacts, estimating lithology, and characterizing reservoir fractures. Geophysical data, with detailed core, well, and reservoir performance data, can be also used for reservoir surveillance. We understand that each exploration problem is different, and experience in, all aspects of exploration geophysics (acquisition, processing, interpretation, R&D) allows us to design a geophysical program finely tuned to your specific targets and geological environments. Our services range from providing advice on the suitability of a particular geophysical method, through survey design, QC and data management, to fully integrated geological/structural/reservoir interpretation.
